What is the eNetwork?
It is a virtual partnership dedicated to forwarding the joint use of traditional engineering (gray) and nature-based solutions (green) in the design and implementation of innovative 21st century water security solutions across sub-Saharan Africa. The eNetwork promotes student and young professional training as well as expert knowledge exchange provided by its many eNetwork partner institutions. We together address issues of resilience, risk, and improved decision making across scales to improve the efficiency, cost effectiveness, and long-term sustainability of green and gray infrastructure investments in the water sector.

Rationale for the Partnership
Growing concerns surrounding climate change and anticipated increases in weather extremes and their associated uncertainties are accelerating interest in designing resilient water systems. Sub-Saharan Africa is set for explosive growth in its population and economic development, but is a region where achieving water security has been difficult, with a heavy reliance on expensive forms of traditional engineering. At the same time, its abundant natural capital is underutilized yet could provide cost-effective alternatives to engineering-only solutions.
